The Olmalaika Trust (Kenya)

What It Is

I had the most amazing experience here, which I will post about and have created some videos for. But here is a fact sheet on the trust that we will visit on our trip.

The Olmalaika Trust is a registered nonprofit working in Narok County, Kenya, near the Maasai Mara National Reserve. It operates as both a safe haven for vulnerable girls and a community support trust focused on education, healing, and empowerment. theolmalaikatrust.org


Mission

The Trust’s mission is to:

  • Protect and house girls and infants who have experienced extreme trauma

  • Foster self-worth, education, and growth

  • Advocate against female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage

  • Promote kindness, compassion, and healthy relationships in the community.

Safe Home & Nursery

  • Provides a safe, nurturing environment for girls aged newborn to ~10 years who have faced abuse, abandonment, violence, FGM, or child marriage.

  • Includes a nursery program for abandoned infants.

  • Works closely with local District Children’s Offices to support at-risk children.

Dental Clinic

The Trust runs a free dental clinic in Sekenani on the edge of the Maasai Mara.

  • Dental care is provided at no cost to the community.

  • Volunteer dentists and hygienists can participate in delivering care.

  • Policy: no extraction unless necessary — repairs are prioritised.

Days for Girls Enterprise

The Trust hosts a Days for Girls enterprise where:

  • Fabric menstrual kits are sewn

  • Kits help girls stay in school

  • Sales support sustainability of the Trust’s programs This helps reduce school absenteeism due to lack of menstrual products.

The Trust is located in Sekenani, Narok County, on the edge of the Maasai Mara National Reserve — a key area for both wildlife conservation and community outreach.
