Eco Gold Rated Larsen's Camp Samburu Kenya view of the restaurant by the river at breakfast

I have written about Larsens Camp Samburu a few times. You can read the Larsen's review and a low-down of the camp here. But this post is about the “soul of Larsens.” The magic of just being there, and how I overcame any fear of being in a tent in Africa!

Beyond the Zips: Overcoming my “Tented Camp” Nerves

The visions of camps are often memories of camping in a small tent in the garden outside of London. In fact, I remember once when I was at Reading Festival in the 1980s, a motorcycle actually fell on my tent, broke the poles, and I ended up sleeping with a collapsed tent for the next 2 nights.

But let’s put the memory of my youth behind us. Those were the days! And the days now are definitely more about "Luxury tented camps in Kenya!"

I can assure you that no motorbikes will be parked on your tent at Larsens. Indeed, nothing will collapse. In fact, Larsen’s is the epitome of sustainable travel in Kenya and eco-tourism. Soroi Larsens camp is the epitome of active luxury. You can move, view, explore, and do so much more than other camps as it's boutique but expansive. The whole concept is one of immersing into the landscape rather than being alienated from it.

What you will experience, however, is stunning, ethical, and sustainable luxury accommodation that will give you tingles when you remember where you were and leave you longing to come back for more. I know, as I am still tingling and dreaming about Larsens. In fact, I would go back today if I could!

The Riverside Ritual: Breakfast Overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River

My day started with a breakfast ritual to die for. Quite literally. The view, the staff, the scenery, the seating, everything was just perfect. You might laugh, but I had the best porridge at Larsen's, and it fueled me for the whole day. It was made with absolute love with my oat milk, and to be honest. Eating it, looking around, the views of the river and elephants and crocodiles were spectacular.

If it were a film, it would be called something like a View to a River of Loveliness or something perhaps, less corny than that!

Why an Eco-Rating Led Me to My Favourite Kenyan Hideaway

I pride myself of choosing Eco-Rating accommodation for everyone in Kenya. My core believe is sustainable travel in Kenya and all of my packages (I only have two, by the way!) are ethical.

Let me not get carried away, read about the Larsen's ECO Gold rating here. Larsens aligns perfectly with our Sustainable Travel Kenya pillars, specifically their commitment to a plastic-free environment.
